Principles
And Construction 1:
The Potters' house is designed to maintain comfortable living conditions through the arrangement of its structural and architectural components, with the input of sunlight and the heat of the earth, and water drawn from a local well (plus the local air, of course). Once the house is built, it should function with as little additional effort expended as possible. These additional efforts include running a furnace or an air conditioner, bringing in water, removing sewage, and so on. Each of these efforts is an additional expense, either to the dwellers directly, or to their surrounding society.
