Or, what happens when you go to a bar to draw...

An Interesting Article in the Paper
Last Monday (26 November 2001), I read an article in the Toronto Star, which described an upcoming "Comics Jam", to take place at a venue on Queen Street.

My friend and I decided to go. I got to the venue, the "Cameron House", located one block west of Spadina on the north side of Queen.

Arrival
A hand-written sign at the entrance said, "9:00. Comics Jam. Back Room". I went in. The back room had a small stage, some tables, and seats. It had been painted mostly black, and it seemed as though films could be shown there.

There were not a lot of people in the room; I found my friend easily. A waiter went around the room, inquiring after the need for drink. We bought some drinks, and pulled out our sketchbooks and drawing supplies. I started to draw in my sketchbook, warming up.

After about half an hour several guys appeared, and unpacked paper and art supplies from a container on the stage. They provided drawing supplies and some old magazines for pictures, and they put sheets of paper on boards.

Drawing
We all took boards and started to draw. The plan was to start a drawing for someone else to finish.I covered half the page with drawing, then went to the stage to find another.

A guy there gave his board to me, and we swapped. His art was very clearly drawn, and rather surreal. No problem; I like surreal. I filled up the rest of the comics frames in his drawing, and attached the sheet on the wall of the stage. Other artwork was appearing there, as the evening continued.

Little Books
Also on the stage were little books of artwork from past Comics Jams. The night's participants could take books containing their works during following Jams; no-one objected when I took two books from past Jams.

Again? Yes!!!
I enjoyed the evening a lot. It was a great pleasure to exercise my drawing hand, and seeing the works of othe artists really inspired me. I will definitely return. And I strongly recomment the Jam to other visiting comics artists.

Lastlunde (la 26a de novembro 2001), mi legis artikolon en la gazeto Toronto Star, kiu temis pri venonta "Comics Jam" (Bildrakonta Kunfarado), kiu estis okazonta ĉe ejo laŭ Queen Street, en Toronto centrurbe.

Amiko mia kaj mi decidis iri tien. Mi atingis la ejon, "Cameron House", kiu troviĝas je unu angulo ockidente de Spadina Avenue, laŭ la norda flanko de Queen Street.

Alveno
Manskribita ŝildo ĉe la enirejo anoncis, "9:00. Comics Jam. Back room" (21.00. Bildrakonta Kunfarado. Malantaŭa Ĉambro). La malantaŭa ĉambro enhavis malgrandan scenejo, kelkajn tabletojn kaj seĝojn. Oni farbis ĝin plejparte nigre, kaj ŝajnis, ke oni povas montri filmojn tie.

Ne multaj homoj enestas la ĉambron. Mi renkontis mian amikon facile. Kelnero trapasis la ĉambron, demandante pri trinkbezono. Ni aĉetis trinkaĵojn, kaj elprenis skribilaron kaj desegnolibrojn de niaj sakoj. Mi ekdesegnis praktike en mia desegnolibro.

Aliaj homoj eniris, kaj post eble duonhoro, kelkaj uloj aperis, kiuj malpakis paperojn kaj aliajn artajn aferojn de mezgranda skatolo sur la scenejo. Ili provizis skribilaron kaj aron de malnovaj magazinoj (kiel fonto de bildoj). Kaj ili metis paperfoliojn sur tabulojn.

Desegnado
Ni ĉiuj prenis tabulojn, kaj ekdesegnis. La intenco estis, fari la ekon de desegnaĵo, kiun iu alia povas fini. Mi kovris duonon de folio perdesegne, kaj iris al la scenejeto trovi alian.

Ulo tie mandonis lian tabulon al mi, kaj ni interdonis artaĵojn. Lia artaĵo estis tre klare desegnita, kaj iomete superrealisma. Ne problemis; mi ŝatas tion. Mi plenigis la alian parton de la desegnitaj bildrakontaj "fenestretoj" de lian artaĵo, kaj afiŝis la folion sur la muro de la scenejo. Tie aliaj artaĵoj troviĝis, kaj pli aperis dum kiam la vespero daŭris.

Libretoj
Alie sur la scenejo estis libretoj de la artaĵoj, kiujn oni kreis dum pasintaj bildrakontaj Kunfaradoj. La ĉi-noktaj partoprenantoj rajtis preni libron de iliaj verkaĵoj dum venontaj Kunfaradoj; neniu kontraŭdiris, kiam mi prenis du libretojn el pasintaj kunfaradoj.

Denove? Ja Jes!
La vesperon mi tre ĝuis. Estis plezuro ekzerci mian desegnantan manon, kaj min inspiris la aliaj artistoj kaj iliaj verkoj. Mi sendube revenos. Kaj mi tre rekomendos la Kunfaradon al vizitantaj bildrakontemaj artistoj.
